What is some advice/tips for a new and unexperienced cocktail waitress?

I just received a job as a cocktail waitress at a bar at the Jersey shore. I have very little experience with cocktails,so what drinks should I definately be familar with? What other tips/advice do you have when dealing with customers, the bar, etc. ....What is some advice/tips for a new and unexperienced cocktail waitress?
Smile, it won't always be easy, but try even if you don't feel like it.What is some advice/tips for a new and unexperienced cocktail waitress?
Know martinis and manhattans, and major shots like jaeger bombs. If someone orders a martini, you need to ask gin or vodka, up or rocks, twist or olives, etc. Instead of ';what kind of vodka do you want?'; ask ';Do you prefer Ketel One or Grey Goose?'; that way, you're more likely to sell top shelf. Know what kind of top shelf liquors your bar offers, at least 2 or 3 of each category.

Wear comfortable shoes. Sexy shoes look nice, but you'll be crying by the end of the night.

Either have your customers pay as they go, or get a credit card. Sometimes people get drunk and forget to pay.

Always have lots of singles and fives for giving change. If you owe someone 5 dollars in change on a small tab, give them all singles so they can tip you. If the tab is more than 20 dollars, give them a fiver so they have to tip you all five dollars.

Cocktail waitressing requires lots of running, muliti-tasking, and sexual harassment. Good luck!

P.S. Get in good with the doorman/ bouncer so he'll take care of you if a customer does you wrong!
