What is the best advice to give a person on finding employment with a minor criminal offense.?

I made a mistake in my life for transporting. I served 7 years for the offense. I am now a resident of California, with that life behind me, trying to seek employment. What is the best advice to give a person on finding employment with a minor criminal offense.?
don't tell anyone. What is the best advice to give a person on finding employment with a minor criminal offense.?
Don't try to hide it - tell the truth but not the whole truth! Answer only if asked and give as little information as possible - leave out the length of your sentence and don't get into details on what happened. Simply stated - I was arrested for transporting illegal substances - but that was then and this is now - then roll right into how you can benefit the company etc. My husband has been in and out of prison for more than 15 years and has managed to finally discharge parole and holds down a good paying job with a major corporation as warehouse manager because he was honest and straight up he got the job!!
Be honest about it and don't try to hide the fact that you have done time. (but don't act proud about doin the crime or doin the time) It's not to be listed as one of your achievements, but can be listed as one of your experiences, just highlight the positives it has taught you about life. treat your time served like a job if asked about it, tell them what you achieved and any lessons you learnt. This advice wont work for every job you go for but it will open a few more doors than trying to hide the fact that you did time.
Be honest about your criminal past...more people than you think you know are working amazing jobs with good pay with the history that you do. Just begin by being honest, and mention the things that you did as far as schooling and occupation while you were locked up...it's EXPERIENCE, no matter where you were when you got it.
You need to start with I committed a major offense for which I did a significant amount of time and have since reformed myself.

Do not apply at car dealerships or security type of jobs. Try food warehouses, grocery stores and such.

Good luck.
7 is the normal time for them not to count against you. some companies may said that they want full disclosure while others only want to go back 7 years.

you should always still apply because you never know who is going to interview you. some are more understanding if you represent yourself correctly so best of luck and keep the faith
Transporting with 7 years in prison is NOT a 'minor criminal offense' in any sense of the words.
