What is the best advice to give someone that is contemplating suicide?

What if they do now want to go to a therapist? What if they just gave up? All jokes aside...what would you tell that person? What is the best advice to give someone that is contemplating suicide?
# Talk to the person about how they're feeling.

# Listen to what the person says - sometimes, when a person wants to talk, they're not always seeking advice, but just need to talk about their concerns.

# Maintain eye contact and sit in a relaxed position - positive body language will help both people feel more comfortable.

# Use open-ended questions such as ';So tell me about...?'; which require more than a 'yes' or 'no' answer. This is often a good way to start a conversation.

# If conversation becomes difficult or if the person with depression gets angry, stay calm, be firm, fair and consistent and don't lose control.

# Often, just spending time with the person lets them know someone cares and understands them.

# Encourage the person to seek professional help from their family doctor or a mental health worker.

# Take care of yourself. Supporting someone with depression can be demanding. Family and friends should take 'time out' to look after themselves. What is the best advice to give someone that is contemplating suicide?
omg are u serious ??? if so tell them to hang on in there whatever they are going through can not be so bad they want to end there life. as a Friend be there for them as its a massive cry for help , in time he/she WILL get over it a be very grate full that you were there for them and stopped them , as you have to think ov the people he/she will be leaving behind and wot will it do to them , hope this helps and good luck love Tracey
Tell that person not to throw away his/her life and that you'll be there for him/her.

Most people won't tell others if they're really hurt or disturbed so its up to you, as a friend, to notice and be the cushion for them to fall on.
I'd advice him to make sure it is nicer in the other side.

for it might be worse. and does not worth the effort.
I think it is called a section 35.

yes, you call the police dept. and place that person under protective custody. (without them knowing).
tell them they are going to die anyway, so why not live and enjoy it while they are alive...death gets us all eventually...why bring it on early...
All of the advice I saw posted is very great! Use it all! Make sure you stay with that person until the storm passes!
To hang in there. Life will only get better.
