What is some good advice for an aspiring film student?

I would like to go to college for either art, history, or film. I can see pretty clear paths for the former two, but not for the third.

What preparations should I make? What do I have to know?What is some good advice for an aspiring film student?
If you decide to head into film, find an undergraduate program that can set you up in internships because that's the best way to find jobs after graduation. If you don't have an internship that provides contacts in the industry (and a potential job offer after graduation), then you're pretty much on your own when it comes to finding a job once you finish school. Everyone wants to be a director, but it's easier to get started in the industry in production simply because there are more jobs in production. The entry level jobs require long hours and don't pay much, but they provide valuable contacts and get you started. You'll need good social skills, good organizational skills, flexibility and perseverance to succeed in production. If you think you want to be a director, start taking photography courses because filming is a visual medium and you need to learn to see what the camera sees.

What is the best advice for switching my regular IRA to a Roth IRA?

Considering the current price of stocks, isn' t this the best time(2008)to switch to a Roth IRA so that I can reduce my regular IRA minimum required distribution, in order to pay less income tax in the coming years? I am 73yrs oldWhat is the best advice for switching my regular IRA to a Roth IRA?
Convertng to a ROTH does not mean that you must invest in stocks. That's an independent choice. You could do stocks... or CDs, or Treasury bills, etc. Whether to switch is more related to your tax and financial situation. It coud be a great decision, or a poor decision. It just depends on your situation.What is the best advice for switching my regular IRA to a Roth IRA?
Possibly.

I'd suggest to just keep taking out as much from the traditional IRA as possible until you hit the first tax bracket and then take out of the Roth any more you need.

May be the fed will do something crazy and reduce taxes on traditional ira distributions to help the middle class if recession hits. I mean, Roth's arn't supposed to exist much longer but odds are they will either extend them or make them permanent anyways. Unless your Roth wont last long I'd say wait for more favorable tax laws to make large pulls from the traditional.

Well, I'm 28 so i got 20-30 years. This may be swaying my opinion.
In theory, yes.

But I'd carefully look at your overall finances as moving a huge amount of money will trigger income tax. I would only suggest estimating your taxes several times with different amounts and only move out the 10% or 15% tax bracket's worth.

You must still be filing either single or MFJ, not MFS.

Your income must be less than $100K.

You cannot roll over your minimum required distribution for the year. (The conversion will reduce the amount remaining in the account and will reduce the 2009 mrda).

What is the best advice you ever received on writing good poetry

The best advice that I got is probably:

In poetry, you are not trying to communicate information, but experience.What is the best advice you ever received on writing good poetry
Show, don't tell

Use detail to show

Be prepared to cross out that word or phrase you really really really like if it doesn't fit.What is the best advice you ever received on writing good poetry
Don't even try it.....I was told.

I WROTE some lines once on a time

In wondrous merry mood,

And thought, as usual, men would say

They were exceeding good.

They were so queer, so very queer,

I laughed as I would die;

Albeit, in the general way,

A sober man am I.

I called my servant, and he came;

How kind it was of him

To mind a slender man like me,

He of the mighty limb.

';These to the printer,'; I exclaimed,

And, in my humorous way,

I added, (as a trifling jest,)

';There'll be the devil to pay.';

He took the paper, and I watched,

And saw him peep within;

At the first line he read, his face

Was all upon the grin.

He read the next; the grin grew broad,

And shot from ear to ear;

He read the third; a chuckling noise

I now began to hear.

The fourth; he broke into a roar;

The fifth; his waistband split;

The sixth; he burst five buttons off,

And tumbled in a fit.

Ten days and nights, with sleepless eye,

I watched that wretched man,

And since, I never dare to write

As funny as I can.
i think i've only been given one piece of advice that applied generically to all my poetry. it was something along the lines of....

';you keep putting in lines just to fill the gaps. stop it!';

i don't think i succeeded in avoiding the advice-giver's ';crime'; of filler lines...
Probably the best advice I ever got was ';Give it up, it'll break your heart worse than a woman';. Of course I was stubborn, and did not give it up, and now you see what is left after years of ridicule and humiliation. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
your tryin to communicate information to, just make sure you say what you want to say the way you want to say it.
From my Creative Writing instructor on punctuation:

';You can use it in poems, you know--not only CAN you, but you SHOULD!';

That poetry is not made of ideas, but of words. That was Mallarm茅 talking to me. I was very young then. Considering he died in 1898.

EDIT: corrected typo... I am such a perfectionist.
A teacher pulled me aside one day and said, ';Don't worry so much about learning how to write a good story. Go out there and learn how to tell a good story.';
The best advice I have ever gotten is to read poetry, lots of it and different styles.
Probably try and explain the experience with words, instead of just using words! Close to the one you received! Cheers!!
Let your heart do the thinking and your hand do the writing.
Please let someone that knows how to write poetry do it, not you.
K.I.S.S.
Make it bleed.
Write what you know.
';Make every word count.';
mine was ';What is this Crap ... Toilet Paper?';
...it doesn't need to rhyme and should be built from your heart
mine was write from your heart and soul shallow poets are un expressive

  • What are the benefits of doing debt consolidation instead of bankrupcy? Any advice or sites to visit?

    It is true that bankrupcy is going to show on my credit for the rest of my life? They are asking for $600 for a monthly payment and I cant do that amount. What can I do? I dont want to do bankrupcy

    Thank you!What are the benefits of doing debt consolidation instead of bankrupcy? Any advice or sites to visit?
    Yes it is true. Bankruptcy is bad so don't do it. get a second job and consolidate your bills.

    This article on the subject may help you:

    http://www.yourloan.ca/loan-articles/con鈥?/a>What are the benefits of doing debt consolidation instead of bankrupcy? Any advice or sites to visit?
    Bankrupcy stays on your credit for 10 years. If you go with a debt management company then your credit can go down but in the long run will start to increase as you make your timely payments. The other thing you can do is a debt settlement. That means that a company will negogiate with your credit cards to pay off half the balance and consider it paid off. you must be aware though that your credit cards are not getting paid until atleast the half is accumulated. I'm in the debt management business and if you need help we give free credit counseling.
    With the new bankruptcy law, breaking free from debt has become more difficult. Hence avoid getting caught in the debt. If due to any reason, you are in debt, remedy the situation immediately. Though debt consolidation loans charge lower rates of interest than most other types of loans, there is a big difference in rates charged by various lenders. Hence research the lenders thoroughly before applying. Tell the lender how much you can pay and till when you can pay. They can find out a right plan for you.

    Keep looking around and yes, avoid bancruptcy. I did it back in 01 and the lawyer who did it missed a couple of things for one but it still isnt off my record and I have paid very high interest rates for things because of it. I stupidly thought that what or why you filed couldnt be seen, just that you had filed but I was wrong. Glad that time in life is over. Be careful not to let it come to garnishment either as that isnt very favorable with employers.
    Hi,

    I used ';Credit Solution'; to settle my debt and improve my credit score.They managed to reduce my debt up to 58% .It's legitimate.I came across this company on NBC News Special Edition.Check it out here:

    The best thing you can do hun is take a test, there is no point worrying about what your parents will say if you're not even sure you're pregnant.

    Definitely do a pregnancy test, the only way you can move on with your life is by knowing the truth.

    I was 19 when I fell pregnant, if you are pregnant you may find your parents are surprisingly supportive.

    Hope this helps, and whatever the test results are that you are happy!!Might be pregnant but need some advice please?
    wait and see if u miss your period then take a test then think about telling your parents

    if you are its your choice what to do good luck

    its too early to tell if ur pregnant yet, wait till u miss yr period. just a question if ur worried about yr parents finding out ur pregnant why have u come off the pill or rather if u have come off the pill why arent u using an alternative reliable contraceptive ?

    What is the best advice for high school freshmen?

    Lots of things are said to incoming freshman. Now its your turn to pass along words of wisdom.What is the best advice for high school freshmen?
    * Find what you love. Ask around about which teachers are best and experiment with classes you might like. Volunteer or get a job in an area that interests you. Don't let your life be defined by the one-size-fits-all requirements; do your own thing.

    * Don't worry too much about making friends right away; the people you cling to in the first week may turn out to be less interesting than the people you meet when you've found your niche.

    * Be organized. Keep track of all your responsibilities in a planner or calendar -- helps you avoid ';Oh, that was due TODAY????';

    * Be IN CHARGE of your own education. Ask for help if you need it; don't wait for parents or teachers to take responsibility.What is the best advice for high school freshmen?
    dont slack off becuz it will come back to haunt u in about 2 or 3 years when its time to graduate and u dont have enough credits!!
    Just be tough. Don't let them see any fear and show them who's boss. They're just being silly. If you show them your tough they will respect you and usually leave you alone.
    Focus on school because all the social politics and separate groups are don't even apply in the ';real world'; so don't worry about being popular or cool. Just do your work and get good grades so you can get into some kick *** college. Trust me that will be WAY more important than anything else.
    be smart about your actions
    Beware of Seniors!! Ok, in all seriousness. Take notes, pay attention, study and get good grades. Don't be tardy, try not to miss any days, and be helpful to the teachers. These are the years when your grades count toward your GPA. Stay ';Above the Influence'; with peer pressure. Don't be afraid to be yourself and always remember, not everyone is always going to like you but you don't have to make it your problem, it is theirs'. Good luck...
    Be as organized as you can. Pay attention to and keep track of due dates. It wouldn't hurt for you to have a planner or electronic organizer. Pay attention in class and take notes. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Most teachers don't mind, especially if you've been paying attention. Don't put off doing homework or studying. Your grade are going to be very important from this point on. Don't stress out about it, but just do your best.
    Pay attention
    my best advice to you is PICK YOUR FRIENDS WISELY!

    one thing that is going to make or break a positive high school experience is your friends. one thing you don't need when enteing an already stressful situation such as a new school is drama created by your friends. i should know, because my freshman year sucked thanks to the friends i chose. also, make sure you have responsible friends. You don't want to have your friends getting mixed up in things like drugs or alcohol or sex or anything like that... because who you hang out with is ultimately a reflection of yourself! You'll be fine just as long as you dont do anything stupid!! don't do anything you wouldn't do in front of your parents, your principal, or your grandparents! make that your motto... have faith in yourself and don't do anything STUPID!
    stay free of drugs, alcohol and tabaco products. Stay in school...

    10 years after you will regret or appreciate what u did 10 years ago.

    Don't become an statistic.

    Can anyone give me advice on what type of raclette is the best?

    Should I get the kind with a grill top, a stone top or a combination of the two? Any other tips or advice about this are very welcome.Can anyone give me advice on what type of raclette is the best?
    I find this one the best:

    SWISSMAR Matterhorn Swiss Raclette with GrillCan anyone give me advice on what type of raclette is the best?
    What's a raclette?
    I would probably go with a combination of the two, this way you can have it either way! You can be grilling on top, and melting your cheeses on the bottom. Yum!

    Have fun and don't forget to invite me for dinner!
