My son wilil be 8 mos. tomorrow and he just now started teething...is this normal? And, any advice?

My Mother-in-law told me that since Logan, my son, has started teehing so late that he'll probably cut 3-4 teeth at a time. He has been really fussy today and I'm afraid that the worst is yet to come. Does anyone have any home remedies or any advice about what worked for you? I'll accept any advice and at this point I'll try anything EXCEPT rubbing whiskey or beer on his gums. I've heard that one before and I'm not about to try it! PLEASE HELP!My son wilil be 8 mos. tomorrow and he just now started teething...is this normal? And, any advice?
Its normal. Try Hylands Teething Gel and Tablets. Get it from drugstore.com. Its homeopathic and safer than orajel. Orajel actually burns the gums. I do not reccomend that product.

But that Hylands Teething Gel was the best thing I ever got for my first son. He went to sleep the whole night!!

Also, get a damp cloth and put it in the freezer. When it freezes, let him chew on it.

Get a banana or a bagel, put it in the freezer and let him chew on it.

These techniques worked very well for me, I know they will work for you!My son wilil be 8 mos. tomorrow and he just now started teething...is this normal? And, any advice?
just give hin a dose of tylenol for the pain and fever he may be suffering, and keep his diaper dry. Most babies get a diaper rash while teething. try doint things that make him happy, like baths or walks. My grandmother used to tell me to give my kids a raw carrot to chew on. apparently the skin has a numbing effecton the gums. But it has to be bigger than an inch in diameter so the baby won't choke.
your son did not teething late. All Babies are different.Try Orajel and rub on the gums.Teething rings and baby pretzel sticks ,let him chew away,My kids liked a wed wash cloth. You can give Tylenol also for the pain .
Umm, my daughter started at 9 months and guess what? She gets ONE painful tooth at a time. She is now 15 months and only has 3 teeth and they all came in at least a month apart. She is SO cranky when it hurts. No home remedies but stock up on oral gel and ibuprofen (or tylenol). She also likes popsicles (even though they are SO messy, it helps the pain) and cold drinks. The things that never worked were teething rings and those teething tablets (how can you get a baby to hold it under their tongue to let is dissolve anyways!). Advice....get ready because the worst IS to come. Giving oral gel before bed will stop SOME of the 2 am pain cries and also giving a dose of tylenol around an hour before bedtime if it was a rough day. It's horrible, I wish I could help more lol!!
This isn't late, it's okay. Some teeth from about three months, others are still toothless on their first birthday.

Relax, and take any 'mother-in-law' advice with a pinch of salt!

The thing that helped my daughter was calpol and bonjela, she didn't get on with teething rings, and I've heard lots about freezing a clean damp washcloth for baby to chew on.

Don't be surprised though, if your little one loses his appetite, and don't try to force-feed him his normal food because he won't want to eat much, so lots of milk is most likely what he will want. Don't stress if that happens.
yep , very normal, my daughter was 13mnths and my son 12 before they got there first tooth and as far as anything that can help , well teething rings, orjel, and motrion are your keys..lol and get plenty of sleep there might be some long night ahead.
the age your child is teething at is perfectally normal. the age at which teeth come in vary greatly. my first two had their first teeth during their 5th month whereas my last two didn't start cutting them until they were 9 mo. i do agree though that the later they start the more close together they will come in. my 11 mo. old cut 6 teeth in 6 weeks. good luck.
All I can tell you is that I have a nephew who started getting his first tooth at 8 months and he didnt get them all at once. Also, my daughter is 6 months and has no teeth.
yea its normal...just get that oragel stuff and put it on his gums it will numb them i have had 6 nephews so i know...some advice: take headache medicine and be patient..hes going to be crying and very cranky :)
Hi Ash (that's my son's name well its Ashton but Ash for short) Welcome to YA! Anyways this is normal. All babies develop at different times. As far as cutting more teeth at one time its quite possable. He will be fussy no matter what so it may be good to get more then one in at a time because it will be over with sooner. I would recommend that you have Tylenol on hand at all times and plenty of teething toys. (if you put some teething toys in the freezer for a while then give it to him it helps numb the pain) Good luck to you!
My niece is 16 months old and didn't start teething until last month! She went to the doc. and they did tests to make sure they were there and they are.... and are coming in normally now.. 1 at a time with the next not too far behind.
Actually - my son had his 4 month appointment yesterday. The doctor said that children teethe from 4 months to 15 months. Don't worry - he may have started later than what others think as normal, but you'll have the same headaches as the ones who started earlier - you just had a longer reprieve. Best of luck to you. I'm going through it now as well.
My son had his 1st tooth at 6 mo. I used orajel for babies and teething rings. I will tell you from experience don't give him teething biscuits or any kind of food , I tried this and my son got choked on something that seemed to be something kinda soft. It scared me to death! He has never used a pacifier but always wanted to chew on my fingers weird, I know but that's just what he does. Also try teething rings that you can freeze. Also, tylenol but ask your doctor about dosage as I give my son 1tsp and he's 25 lbs. so your son will probably be less.
Ambisol or any oral gel for kids and get one of those teething rings that you can stick in the freezer. The cold numbs the gums.
1st, it's normal. You can try Tylenol and different teething toys, our son happens to love his %26amp; our fingers.
